The Australian Greens have responded to the news that the president of the Tasmanian Greens’ South Australia branch and its leader has been put on a two-year suspension from political activity for two years.
The suspended Greens member, Sam Wills, was elected to the state parliament in the February 2015 election and, just 12 months later, 바카라사이트lost to Nick Xenophon in the May 2015 poll.
Wills was asked to suspend for two years after receiving a warning letter issued in January 2016 stating he was breaking election rules.
His suspension is “not on grounds of criminality, misappropriation of funds or any other criminal charge against him but is on grounds of political conduct under the provisions of our Constitution”, Tasmanian Greens state group spokesperson Grant Cook said in a statement.
“The Tasmanian Greens have always upheld the highest standards of behaviour and conduct which we consider to be in the best interests of all members, while ensuring public confidence in the election process and the electoral system itself,” Cook added.
It is believed the Tasmanian Greens’ South Australia branch has received a letter from the party, via the Tasmanian High Commission, indicating a suspension notice was sent to Wills on October 14, 2015 and he responded on November 5, 2015.
The suspended Greens member received a two-year suspension from political activity on November 11.
The Tasmanian Greens’ state political party president, Martin Burke, responded to the Greens’ statement through his national spokesman Andrew Gaze, who said: “Mr Wills did not breach any laws but has received an immediate two year ban for his involvement in electoral politics that was based on public complaints lodged by his colleagues.”
“The Tasmanian Greens have always maintained strict and strict party discipline. It is for members of this organization to see that discipline and strict party discipline remains the basis for our future and will only be respected under the Tasmanian Greens as a Party,” Burke continued.
Cook says the Tasmanian Greens have made no comment on Wills’ status since the suspension and there are no plans to ask the party’s state president, Chris Evans, to question Wills further about the matter.
